Frequently asked questions

Are downloaded copies of Aadhaar, PAN and driving licence valid?

Yes. e-Aadhaar downloaded from UIDAI and e-PAN from the Income Tax Department portals are valid, and documents issued into DigiLocker are accepted as equivalent to the originals under the IT Act rules.

Do I need to pay anyone to apply for these documents?

Only the official government fee, where one applies. Many services, such as Baal Aadhaar enrolment and downloading e-Aadhaar, are free. Avoid websites or agents asking for extra “service charges”.

Is it safe to share my Aadhaar number?

Share it only where it is required. UIDAI lets you use a masked Aadhaar and lock your biometrics for extra safety. Never share OTPs with anyone.
