How to Check PAN Aadhaar Link Status (Online and SMS)
Not sure whether your PAN is linked with Aadhaar? It matters: PANs not linked by 31 December 2025 became inoperative from 1 January 2026. You can check your link status in under a minute online or by SMS, without logging in.
Method 1: Income Tax e-filing portal
- Go to the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Under Quick Links, click Link Aadhaar Status.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number.
- Click View Link Aadhaar Status.
Method 2: SMS
Send UIDPAN <12-digit Aadhaar> <10-digit PAN> to 567678 or 56161 from any mobile. You’ll get a reply saying whether they’re linked.
What the result means
| Message | What to do |

| Your PAN is linked to Aadhaar | Nothing, you’re done |
| Link request sent to UIDAI for validation | Wait a few days and check again |
| PAN not linked with Aadhaar | Pay the ₹1,000 fee and link it now |
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my PAN is inoperative?
If it isn’t linked with Aadhaar (and you’re not exempt), it’s inoperative. The e-filing portal also shows PAN status when you log in or use “Verify Your PAN”.
How long after linking does PAN become operative again?
Usually within about 30 days of successful linking.
