How to Download e-Aadhaar Online (and the PDF Password)
The e-Aadhaar is a digitally signed PDF copy of your Aadhaar that UIDAI says is as valid as the physical card. You can download it free, any number of times, from the myAadhaar portal, the official Aadhaar app or DigiLocker. Here’s how, plus how to open the password-protected PDF.
How to download e-Aadhaar from myAadhaar
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and choose Download Aadhaar.
- Enter your Aadhaar number, Enrolment ID (EID) or Virtual ID (VID), plus the captcha.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Choose whether you want a masked Aadhaar (shows only the last 4 digits of your number, safer for sharing) and download the PDF.
What is the e-Aadhaar PDF password?
The password is the first four letters of your name in CAPITAL letters followed by your year of birth (YYYY).

If your first name has fewer than four letters, use all of it plus the year (for example, “Om” born 1990 = OM1990).
Other ways to get your Aadhaar
- Aadhaar app / mAadhaar app: log in with your Aadhaar number and OTP to view and share your Aadhaar.
- DigiLocker: link your Aadhaar in DigiLocker to get an e-Aadhaar in the Issued Documents section.
- PVC card: for a wallet-size card by post, order an Aadhaar PVC card (₹75).
Can’t get the OTP?
If your mobile number isn’t registered with Aadhaar, you can’t download the e-Aadhaar online. Get your mobile number added first (see how to update your mobile number in Aadhaar), or visit an Aadhaar centre.
