How to Update Aadhaar Address Online (myAadhaar Step-by-Step)
You can change the address on your Aadhaar card online through UIDAI’s myAadhaar portal, without visiting an Aadhaar centre, as long as your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar. You just log in with an OTP, upload a proof of address, and track the request with the number you get. Below are the exact steps, accepted documents, fees and what to do if your request is rejected.
What you need
- Your Aadhaar number and access to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar (for the OTP)
- A clear scan or photo of a valid Proof of Address (PoA) in your name, in JPEG, PNG or PDF format (under 2 MB)
- The address exactly as it appears on the document
How to update your Aadhaar address online
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click Login.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha, then the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
- Choose Address Update (or Document Update if you’re refreshing your proofs).
- Select Update Aadhaar Online, then choose Address as the field to update.
- Enter your new address carefully. It must match the document you’re uploading.
- Select your document type from the list and upload a clear copy.
- Pay the fee if one applies (see below), then submit.
- Note the URN / SRN (Update/Service Request Number) shown on screen and in the SMS. You’ll need it to track the update.
Accepted proof of address documents
UIDAI accepts a long list of documents. The most commonly used are:
- Passport
- Bank passbook or bank statement (with bank stamp)

- Ration card
- Electricity, water, gas or landline bill (usually not older than 3 months)
- Registered rent or lease agreement

How long does it take?
Most online address updates are processed within a few days to a few weeks. UIDAI can take up to 90 days in some cases. You can check your Aadhaar update status with your URN at any time. Once it’s approved, download your updated e-Aadhaar or order a PVC card.

- The address typed doesn’t match the uploaded document.
- The document is blurred, cropped or not in your name.
- The bill or statement is too old.
- You uploaded a document type that isn’t valid as proof of address.
