How to Verify Gold Hallmark (HUID) Online with BIS CARE
In India, hallmarked gold jewellery must carry a 6-digit HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification) code. You can verify any HUID for free with the Bureau of Indian Standards’ BIS CARE app to confirm the jewellery’s purity and where it was hallmarked, before you buy or when you sell.
What a valid hallmark includes
- The BIS standard mark (triangle logo)
- Purity / fineness grade, for example 22K916, 18K750 or 14K585
- A 6-digit alphanumeric HUID code
How to verify HUID with the BIS CARE app
- Install the official BIS CARE app from the Play Store or App Store.
- Register with your name, mobile number and OTP.
- Open Verify HUID.
- Enter the 6-digit HUID code engraved on the jewellery.
- The app shows the article type, purity, the jeweller’s registration and the hallmarking centre that tested it.
If the HUID doesn’t match
- If the purity or article shown doesn’t match what you’re buying, don’t buy it and ask the jeweller to explain.
- You can file a complaint through the BIS CARE app.
- Always ask for a bill showing the HUID, weight, purity and making charges.
