How to Apply for Voter ID Online (Form 6)
If you’re an Indian citizen aged 18 or above (or turning 18 on one of the qualifying dates), you can register as a voter and get a Voter ID (EPIC) online for free by filing Form 6 on the Election Commission’s portal. Here’s how.
Who can apply
- Indian citizens aged 18+ on a qualifying date (1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October). You can apply in advance from age 17.
- Ordinarily resident at the address where you’re registering
- Not already registered elsewhere (if you’ve moved, use Form 8 to shift instead)
Documents
- Recent passport-size photo
- Proof of age (birth certificate, Class 10 marksheet, Aadhaar, passport, etc.)
- Proof of address (Aadhaar, bank passbook, utility bill, rent agreement, etc.)
How to apply online (Form 6)
- Go to voters.eci.gov.in and sign up / log in with your mobile number and OTP.
- Choose New registration for general electors (Form 6).
- Fill in your details, upload your photo and documents, and submit.
- Note the reference number to track your application.
A Booth Level Officer (BLO) may visit to verify your details. Once approved, your name is added to the electoral roll and you can download the e-EPIC.
