How to Download Driving Licence Online (DigiLocker and mParivahan)
You can’t download an official PDF of your driving licence from Parivahan itself, but you can get a legally valid digital driving licence through DigiLocker or the mParivahan app. Both pull your licence directly from the government’s Sarathi database. Here’s how.
Method 1: DigiLocker
- Log in to DigiLocker (website or app) with your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Search for Driving Licence and choose Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
- Enter your DL number exactly as on your licence (and date of birth if asked).
- Click Get Document. Your DL appears in Issued Documents, and you can view or download it.
Method 2: mParivahan app
- Install the official mParivahan app and sign in with your mobile number.
- Go to the RC/DL dashboard and add your driving licence number.
- Your virtual DL is shown in the app.
Is a digital DL valid?
Yes. Under the Motor Vehicles rules, driving licences in DigiLocker and mParivahan are valid for checks by traffic police, just like the original.
Frequently asked questions
DigiLocker says “no record found”.
Check the DL number format (state code, RTO code, year and number) and your date of birth. Old licences may need to be digitised at your RTO first.
My licence has expired.
Renew it online through Sarathi.
