The e-Shram card is the Ministry of Labour’s registration for unorganised workers: daily-wage labourers, domestic workers, street vendors, gig and platform workers, farm workers and more. Once registered, you get a 12-digit UAN (Universal Account Number). Here’s how to check your registration, download your card, and what the card actually gives you.
Important: e-Shram does not pay a monthly amount
Many websites and videos talk about an “e-Shram payment status” or “₹1,000 monthly”. The e-Shram card itself does not provide a regular payment. It’s a national database that helps you access social security schemes. Some state governments have made one-time payments to registered workers in the past, but these were state schemes announced separately. Be careful of anyone asking for money or OTPs to “release” an e-Shram payment.
How to check your e-Shram registration and download your card
- Go to eshram.gov.in.
- Click Already Registered? Update / Login.
- Enter your Aadhaar-linked mobile number or UAN and verify with the OTP.
- Your profile opens. You can view details, update information and download the UAN card.
What benefits are linked to e-Shram?
- Accident insurance: through PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), subject to scheme conditions.
- Access to schemes: e-Shram data is used to connect workers with central and state welfare schemes. The portal lists schemes you may qualify for.
- A UAN recognised across states, useful if you migrate for work.
