IRCTC Login and Registration: How to Book Train Tickets Online
To book train tickets online, you need an IRCTC account. Registration is free. Once you Aadhaar-authenticate your account, you can book Tatkal tickets and get priority in the first window when general bookings open. Here’s how to register, log in and book.
Create an IRCTC account
- Go to irctc.co.in or the IRCTC Rail Connect app and click Register.
- Choose a username and password, and fill in your name, date of birth, email and mobile number.
- Verify your mobile and email with OTPs.
Aadhaar-authenticate your account (recommended)
- After logging in, go to My Account → Authenticate User.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and verify with the Aadhaar OTP.
Aadhaar authentication is required for online Tatkal bookings. Indian Railways has also reserved the opening window of general reservations for Aadhaar-authenticated users.
How to book a ticket
- Log in and enter From, To, date and quota, then search.
- Choose the train and class and check seat availability.
- Click Book Now and add passenger details (or pick from your Master List).
- Choose your boarding station and preferences, then pay.
- Your e-ticket and PNR are sent by SMS and email.
Login problems
- Forgot password: use Forgot Password on the login page (OTP to your registered mobile or email).
- Account locked: contact IRCTC customer care through the website.
