Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood, London, is known as the “Home of Cricket”. It’s owned by MCC, is home to Middlesex, and hosts England Test and white-ball matches, including India’s tours of England, plus The Hundred and major finals. This guide covers how to get there, what you can bring (including Lord’s famous alcohol allowance), bags, and match-day tips.
Rules differ by match type. Always check What to Bring to Lord’s and the ground regulations for your match.

How to get to Lord’s
- Tube: St John’s Wood (Jubilee line) is about a 5-minute walk. Baker Street, Marylebone and Warwick Avenue are longer walks.
- Driving: not recommended. There’s no public parking at the ground and roads around it are restricted on major match days.
Bags
Lord’s gets very full on big match days, so bring a small bag only. All bags are searched, and large bags and luggage may be refused. There’s no guarantee of left-luggage facilities, so don’t come straight from the airport with suitcases.
Can you bring alcohol into Lord’s?
Lord’s is one of the few big grounds that lets adults bring some alcohol, but not for every match. For matches where it’s allowed, each adult may bring one of:
- one bottle of wine or Champagne (max 750 ml), or
- two cans or bottles of beer or cider (max 500 ml each), or
- two cans of premixed drinks (max 330 ml each).
Spirits and fortified wines are not allowed. For T20 Blast and The Hundred, different (stricter) rules apply, and for some matches alcohol has to come in through a specific gate, such as the Grace Gate. Check the rules for your match before packing.
Tips for Indian fans at Lord’s
- India matches at Lord’s sell out fast. Buy only through official channels (Lord’s / the ECB), as resale tickets can be cancelled.
- Lord’s is famously traditional: the Pavilion and some members’ areas have a dress code, but general stands don’t.
- London weather changes quickly, so bring a light jacket and sunscreen.
